04/09/2010 Day 4 Vancouver to Mexico

Distance Travelled: 1 mile past Hwy 116 travelling on highway 19 to Harlow Dve, Bremerton. Roughly 85km

Money Spent: $3.25 – Some biscuits and a bottle of water.

Thinking it was going to rain all day I decided to sleep in… I had an incredible and lengthy sleep; I was out for 11 hours. I headed over to the food bank to see Stu, where he offered me donuts and coffee. Unfortunately the food bank part of the building is only open on Wednesdays and the only thing that was offered was yard sale type junk. I sat talking to a bunch of old people for a while before setting off in the drizzle and I still don’t know what a food bank is.

The rain wasn’t really wasn’t too terrible and certainly wasn’t as bad as when I cycled in Vietnam but rain and overcast weather does ruin the nice views.

For some reason the map I photocopied from the German couple is more difficult understand than the other maps I’ve used because I keep on missing the turn offs and getting lost, today it happened 3 times, one of which I had to turn back around for 3 miles.

Today when my iPod died I was thinking about how much I used to hate as a motorist cyclists being on the road when they have a cycle lane; there’s a reason for this, every motorist that’s driving on the asphalt kicks up grit, dirt, rocks and sometimes even glass onto the sides of the roads aka the cycle paths. We have only two very thin tires that are easily punctured something we obviously try to avoid.

One route that I took was along Paradise Bay and in my honest opinion was rather lame and filled with old people but then again my idea of paradise is a bunch of sexy naked women sprawled along the beach, perhaps the rain kept them indoors, I dunno. One good thing I can mention about Paradise bay was an area on the roadside where hundreds of blackberries were growing and perfectly ripe too, I spent a good 20 minutes picking them and saved them for dessert for the evening. See Mum I’m eating well.

I was hoping I could make it past Bremerton but I got lazy and found a place to camp right beside a graveyard, hopefully I don’t get disturbed in the night by anyone or worse…

Me chilling in my box of a tent that barely fits me...wait... what is that to the right of the image?
