24/09/2010 Day 24 Vancouver to Mexico

Distance Travelled: Elk Prairie CG to Eureka 80km

Money Spent: $7 for lunch and snacks + $40 for room + $8 for beer at the supermarket and $5 for beer at the pub

Time cycling: 4 Hours 15 minutes

Total Distance Traveled: 1455km

Jeff and I set off towards Eureka just after 10, its good having a riding buddy especially now that I have again managed to break my iPod. L

Jeff is a cool older guy he is young at heart and shares my love of Scandinavia and the girls from there, he’s also a good laugh and he is pretty much on the same route as I am although stopping in LA for his flight back home to Sydney.

It was another sunny day but a little chilly in the shade of the trees – perfect cycling conditions.

We took the coastal route alongside Hwy 101 to Trinidad where we shopped for lunch and had a great view of the Pacific where a lighthouse was situated.

Yesterday when meeting some people on the trail we took I found some Americans to be unintentionally condescending when I talk to them about my travels and adventures, especially the older ones, its very irritating to be spoken to as if I were a five year old but I don’t know how to tell them so I leave or end the conversation. Sorted!

We made it to Eureka at 5 where we looked for a room at a cheap hotel in town… the cheapest being $80 with taxes, but as it was the eve of my 5 year anniversary of travelling I thought I might as well enjoy myself. We ate out at a Mexican place across the road that really wasn’t that great had some beers in the hotel room before heading out to a bar that was recommended to us just down the road.

It didn’t take me long to get chatting to some locals where there was a bit of a ping pong competition going on, I got involved and had a lot of fun, I progressively got worse the drunker I got but I did get to meet some cool people. Unfortunately there were not any attractive women about in the bar; in fact I don’t think I saw one fit girl in the entire town. Jeff went home early to sleep and I continued drinking till the bar closed then was invited back to a place to join some others for a bit of an after party involving just myself and two others… it didn’t take long before I headed back to the hotel to sleep.
