25/09/2010 Day 25 Vancouver to Mexico

Distance Travelled: Eureka to Burlington CG 80km

Money Spent: $17 for groceries at the dollar store and Safeway

Time cycling: 4 Hours 15 minutes

Total Distance Traveled: 1535km

Woke this morning with quite a hangover, I would have slept in but I had a bunch of things online I had to sort out like accommodation in San Fran. Apparently there is a music festival starting there soon and most of the accommodations including couch surfing hosts are getting filled up.

There was breakfast included at the Best Value Hotel but it wasn’t very good; basically coffee and a muffin, although there was no one watching so I helped myself to more than one muffin… a lot more J

Jeff and I hung about the hotel sorting out what we needed to online and made the most of the $40 we paid each for the room, Jeff even taught me how to true a bicycle wheel as mine was a little uneven.

To be honest last night was fun but really not worth the money, I really am trying to push my hard earned money as far down the road as it can take me – literally.

Eureka really wasn’t a great town and the downtown area seemed very sketchy with a lot of bums wandering the streets some with a blanket over one shoulder but we didn’t have to think about it anymore as we made our way out of town via the mall to stock up on food.

Cycling whilst hung-over isn’t something I would recommend especially during the more tedious stretches of roads, I was getting mouth sweats almost wanting to throw up but then I ate some lunch in a park in Fortuna that sorted me out. Thankfully the terrain today was easy enough and didn’t really build up much of a sweat.

Again we went through another redwood forest called Avenue of the Giants which again was great and also on a not so busy road where we ended up at what use to be the hiker/biker campground, it had moved to a campsite down the road. I personally didn’t want to pay the $5 for pitching up my tent so I tried sneaking in. Unfortunately I was caught having to make up an excuse saying I was just checking the place out and ended up having to pay.

In the evening I made up a very filling meal for a much needed good nights rest and crashed out early.

Cycling through more Redwood Forests
Dinner - yumyum!

Now thats a hybrid!
